Turkana – Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has revealed that the government will recruit 5,000 police officers in a move aimed at strengthening security across Kenya, especially in high-risk regions.
Speaking during an interdenominational church service in Lodwar, Turkana County, on Sunday, December 15, Kindiki announced that the recruitment process, which had been delayed, is scheduled to take place in March 2025.
Strengthening Security and Creating Jobs
The deputy president emphasized that the recruitment is part of President William Ruto’s broader strategy to enhance national security and address unemployment by creating job opportunities for Kenyans.
“We recently added more personnel to the Kenya Defence Forces, and now we are gearing up to hire 5,000 police officers in March. This recruitment will not only improve security but also contribute to creating job opportunities in the public and informal sectors,” Kindiki stated.
The new officers will be strategically deployed to northeastern Kenya and other regions that require enhanced security measures.
Continued Support for Interior Ministry
Kindiki also pledged his support for the incoming Interior Cabinet Secretary, assuring Kenyans that he would remain actively involved in ensuring the country’s safety.
“As Deputy President, I will collaborate with the new Interior CS to maintain security across the nation. We pray for the new minister’s success, and I will always be available to offer my insight and backup to guarantee a safer Kenya,” he added.
Addressing Delayed Police Recruitment
The announcement comes as a relief to many Kenyans who had raised concerns over delays in police recruitment. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering national security while tackling unemployment.
The recruitment exercise in March 2025 is expected to open doors for thousands of Kenyans while addressing safety concerns in volatile regions.
