A Troubled Marriage Turns Abusive
A woman from Kirinyaga County has narrated the heartbreaking story of how her firstborn daughter betrayed her by having an affair with her husband.
The woman, Martha Nyawira Wamwea, explained that the challenges with her husband started before the shocking discovery. Their marriage, she recalled, had turned violent, forcing her to relocate from Tanzania to Kenya with her children.
“He used to beat me up and send me away with our kids. One day, I decided enough was enough and came back to Nairobi, leaving every household item behind,” she revealed.
Wamwea’s husband later followed her to Kenya, apologizing and promising to reform. She forgave him, and the couple started life afresh.
“He followed me to Kenya and apologized, promising not to harm me and the kids again. I forgave him, and we started living once again from scratch,” she added.
Husband’s Shocking Affair with Her Daughter
Life appeared to normalize, with her husband working as a boda boda rider while Wamwea earned a living doing laundry for clients. However, the situation changed when she became pregnant with her lastborn child.
At this point, her daughter began showing signs of disrespect.
“I was seven months pregnant, and I would leave the house to work. My daughter didn’t want to see me or help with chores. Sometimes, she became violent with me,” Wamwea said.
The strained relationship escalated to a shocking climax when she returned home one afternoon and found her daughter and husband together.
“I came back from my hustle at around 3 pm. The door was not locked, and when I entered the house, I found them without clothes on the bed. Maybe they thought I would come back late,” she said tearfully.
Forced Out of Her Home
The betrayal left her in shock, and she fell to the ground. Seeking help, she called her landlord to mediate the situation. However, her husband brazenly admitted his preference for living with the daughter instead of her.
“The landlord asked him why he would sleep with his stepdaughter, and he boldly said he’d rather live with her than with me,” Wamwea recalled.
The daughter, becoming verbally abusive, forced her mother out of the house.
“They threw my clothes outside and told me never to step foot in that house again. My daughter even threatened to beat me up,” she said.
Wamwea packed her belongings in a sack and left with her two children and her unborn baby.
Seeking a Fresh Start
The distraught mother found refuge with a friend who helped her relocate to Naivasha, Nakuru County, where she now lives with her children under difficult conditions.
“He wasted my time and resources. Right now, I have nothing, and it’s because of him. He destroyed our marriage,” she said.
Despite the betrayal, Wamwea expressed that she has forgiven her daughter but has no desire to reconcile or maintain contact.
“What she did was wrong; being with her stepfather is unforgivable. I have forgiven her, but I would not like to be close to her,” she stated.
Wamwea remains hopeful for a better future and dreams of starting her own small hotel business to provide for her family.
“With enough money, I could open a hotel and sell blended fruit juice to support myself and my children,” she concluded.
