Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Brian Otieno Maurice, the main suspect in the murder of Sospeter Osunga, also known as ‘Akoko the Billionaire.’ This breakthrough follows weeks of thorough investigations into the incident that left the Ayani area shaken.

How the Incident Unfolded

On November 18, 2024, Osunga was attacked by a gang in the Ayani area. The assailants inflicted fatal wounds on his back using a sharp object, resulting in his untimely death. Authorities launched immediate investigations to identify those responsible for the brutal act.

“Investigations have revealed that on the fateful day, Osunga was fatally attacked by a gang of hoodlums in Ayani area where he sustained fatal wounds on his back, believed to have been caused by a sharp object,” the DCI stated.

Breakthrough in the Investigation

Detectives arrested three individuals in connection to the crime during their initial probe. The suspects provided crucial information, which, combined with intelligence leads, allowed the officers to locate Otieno. On December 9, DCI officers apprehended him in Kibra, Nairobi County.

“Detectives based at DCI Kibra have arrested Brian Otieno Maurice, the prime suspect in the murder of Sospeter Osunga, alias ‘Akoko the Billionaire’ in an incident that occurred on November 18, 2024,” the DCI said in a statement.

The DCI confirmed that Otieno will face charges in court, and the arrest is expected to bring justice for Osunga’s family and friends.

Call for Public Cooperation

The DCI urged residents to embrace peace and avoid actions that could disrupt harmony or cause unnecessary loss of life. They emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining safer neighborhoods.

“The DCI implores members of the public to embrace peace and avoid infractions that may lead to unnecessary loss of lives and disruption of peace within our neighborhoods,” their statement added.
