Naivas Supermarket Ruaraka Closed After Signs of Collapse

The Naivas Supermarket branch in Ruaraka has been temporarily closed after the building it occupies showed alarming signs of potential collapse.

On December 8, 2024, the premises were sealed off and marked as hazardous, with yellow tape placed around the structure to warn residents and passersby of the imminent danger.

An inspection revealed that the adjacent building was also unsafe for occupation.

Both buildings have been labeled as dangerous, prompting the closure of all shops within the premises.

The usually bustling area has now turned eerily quiet, with only a few residents venturing close as they go about their daily activities.

The closure has left the surrounding shops and the supermarket itself deserted, disrupting the area’s usual economic vibrancy.

While most business owners have complied with the evacuation orders, some residents have been seen passing through the cordoned-off area despite the warnings.

So far, the National Construction Authority has not commented on the structural concerns that led to the closure.

Similarly, the Nairobi County Government has remained silent on the issue, raising questions about the next steps for ensuring public safety in the affected area.

The incident has sparked concern among locals, who are calling for a comprehensive review of building safety standards in the area.

Many are urging the authorities to address the risks posed by aging or poorly constructed buildings before further incidents occur.
