Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Youth Affairs, and Creative Economy, Kipchumba Murkomen, has announced key appointments to oversee Kenya’s preparations for the upcoming 2025 CHAN and 2027 AFCON tournaments.
These events mark a significant milestone for Kenya, which is set to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside other East African nations.
In a gazette notice issued on Friday, December 6, Murkomen established the Pamoja CHAN 2024 and Pamoja AFCON 2027 Multi-Agency Team (MAT) to spearhead preparations for these prestigious football events.
The MAT will be tasked with planning, coordinating, and executing all activities necessary to ensure Kenya’s successful hosting.
Key Appointments
Among the notable figures named to the National Steering Committee is Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee, a Radio Jambo presenter and former Harambee Stars coach.
Mulee will serve as a committee member, contributing his vast football experience to the team.
Myke Rabar, CEO of Homeboyz Radio, has been appointed as the Head of the Secretariat, a crucial role overseeing the daily operations of the MAT.
The Secretariat will be based at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi, working closely with other team members to streamline the preparations.
Other prominent appointees include:
- Stephen Musonye, former Secretary General of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), who will chair the National Steering Committee.
- Elias Makori, an award-winning sports journalist, also joins the committee as a member.
A Vision for Successful Hosting
Murkomen’s appointments reflect Kenya’s commitment to ensuring the success of these tournaments.
By assembling a diverse and experienced team, the government aims to solidify the country’s position as a key player in African football.
“This multi-agency initiative is a historic opportunity to showcase Kenya’s potential in hosting international events,” Murkomen stated.
With preparations underway, Kenya’s focus remains on delivering world-class tournaments that will elevate East Africa’s football reputation and foster regional unity.
