What Happened at the Event?
In a video shared by theupdatesmail.com, the crowd could be seen chanting Willy Paul’s name as Diamond appeared on stage, ready to perform.
The reaction seemed to upset the singer, and instead of proceeding with his performance, he chose to leave.
Fans, who had braved the cold weather until the early hours of Sunday, December 8, were left angered by his unexpected decision.
Eric Omondi’s Criticism of Event Dynamics
Award-winning comedian and human rights activist Eric Omondi weighed in on the controversy through social media.
He criticized the preferential treatment often given to international artists at the expense of local performers.
“I have witnessed numerous times Kenyan artists begging at the entrance for security to allow their team to enter the venue while our international brothers and sisters arrive in motorcades of up to 15 cars. There is a lot going on in Kenya today, but one thing I am sure of… A lot is going to change. We will harvest!!! Our time is near!” Eric wrote.
Diamond Responds to Eric’s Comments
Diamond responded to Eric’s remarks, defending his position and the treatment of Kenyan artists in Tanzania.
He urged Kenyans to embrace love and collaboration instead of spreading animosity within the East African music industry.
“Afrika Mashariki ni nchi zinazoishi kwa upendo na ushirikiano; jitahidi kuhamasisha upendo na ushirikiano na kuweka bidii, instead ya kuwafunza wasanii watuwekee chuki maana sio solution ya kufanikiwa (East Africa is a region that thrives on love and cooperation; strive to promote love and cooperation and put in effort, instead of teaching artists to spread hate, as that is not a solution for success),” Diamond stated.
A Call for Unity in East Africa
Diamond emphasized that East African artists must support each other for the region to achieve greater success.
He pointed out that Kenyan artists are treated with respect whenever they perform in Tanzania, and he called for mutual understanding among neighboring countries.
The Furaha City incident sparked widespread discussion about how local and international artists are treated at events.
While fans expressed disappointment over Diamond’s walkout, the event has reignited crucial conversations about fairness, respect, and unity within the East African entertainment industry.
